Today I’m hosting Alyson B. Stanfield, author of I’d Rather Be in the Studio! The Artist’s No-Excuse Guide to Self-Promotion. Alyson is here as part of the blog tour to help promote the book and is also giving away a free copy. I'm delighted to be the first stop on the blog tour. Be sure to visit the link for the tour and see all the other artists who are hosting Alyson. Every blogger was asked to submit a question related to the book. Rather than a written interview, I asked Alyson if we could record our conversation. We did and here it is for you to listen in. Just click the button and enjoy.
Oh, and if you want to be eligible for a free copy of I’d Rather Be in the Studio! The Artist’s No-Excuse Guide to Self-Promotion, click here to find out how. If you are in any way doing something - art, writing, a business - where you have to put the word out there, you need this book. It will make the work of marketing so much easier.
You'll also have a chance to talk about the book with me in June, as I’d Rather Be in the Studio! The Artist’s No-Excuse Guide to Self-Promotion is our Creativity Book Salon pick for June. Alyson may be there with us!

Hello Cynthia,
I am excited to be a part of Alyson's blog tour! This book gets down to business.

I just blogged about the book. I hope I did everything right and I'm the first! I'm excited about this book. http://passionandart.blogspot.com/2008/03/ready-for-spring.html

I love this "fall out of love" concept as a place on the path to reward and challenge on our journey! And the best thing I'm taking away is "the importance of finding your creative tribe." Thanks for a wonderful first interview and giving me lots of ideas for my interview with Allyson on May 23. I'm already starting to prioritize - the original question has led to so many more! And it's so grand to have all of Alyson's writing in one place. Great book!

Thanks so much for this awesome kick-off! It's a great reminder of what a birthing process writing a book is.
I took away the reminder that none of us is an island. We need wise and varied others to support and guide us through the process of bringing a dream to life(especially when we lose faith and vision).

Glad you enjoyed the interview! It's so true that we create together, not in a vacuum.
Thanks for reading and for commenting!

Cynthia:
Thanks for a great kick off to the tour. You have set the bar high! I love hearing Alyson speak about the book, I actually found myself going through and looking for the points she was making. I love that the book isn't limited to artist, although I know that is the target market. I have gotten so much out of it and continue to gain tips as I re-read it. Can't wait to have Alyson on my blog on April 11th. This is just such a great way to get into the book.

This was an interesting conversation that you had with Alyson about support in creating. A couple of years ago I started an art salon group based on Alyson's materials. The original program was completed long ago but we continue to meet regularly and are truely the sounding boards for each other. We are insiders in the process of creating and demand complete honesty from each other, which is the only way we can truely grow from critiques of work, ideas and actions. Our numbers have grown and I find many artists wanting to join the group when they hear of it. Thanks for the interview

Janice,
Thanks for commenting! It's great to hear about your salon and so cool to know that Alyson's marketing materials helped you get started.
I love that you demand honesty and challenge each other. Otherwise a group or alliance can get flaccid and it's not helping anyone.
I swear I wouldn't be anywhere without my creative buddies. One is sitting next to me now at the cafe as we work on our projects.
Again, thanks for listening and for commenting!

What a great interview, the bit about letting go off excuses really hit home for me.
